Pictorial Art Quilt Guidebook
Like a workshop in a book, Pictorial Art Quilt Guidebook take you through the process step by step just like being in one of Leni’s workshops. We start with what photos make good candidates for the process; developing a working pattern using Adobe Photoshop or Gimp; learn about color, value and print scale; choosing fabric and translating the photo into a finished art quilt.
The book also contains a handy guide to choosing fabric for everything from water and trees to skin and animal fur and includes an Art Quilter's Gray Scale Value Card to help make the selection of fabric easier.
Patterns are provided for the Explorers shown on the cover along with step by step instructions to recreate this art quilt, and for the famous National Geographic photo of the Afghan Girl by Steve McCurry.
If you can’t get to one of Leni’s workshops, this is almost as good!
This beautifully photographed book includes patterns for twelve fresh and modern quilt designs with no points to match or seams to line up, and instructions for using the blocks in either a symmetrical or free form arrangement. Quilting suggestions and patterns are also included. These quilt designs are great for beginners and for experienced quilters who want a fast and easy project.
Photo-Inspired Art Quilts
Leni’s first book on her technique of turning photos into beautiful art quilts includes several patterns to follow so you can learn the process and then apply it to your own photographs. This book also comes with an instructional DVD and an interview with Nancy Zieman.
Leni’s first book teaches you how to use free motion stitching to do thread sketches and then fill them in with thread to make thread paintings. Even if you are unfamiliar with free motion, the techniques in this book are easy to learn. Can’t draw? Neither can Leni. Learn her tricks for turning commercial fabric or photos printed onto computer printable fabric into beautiful artwork—or how to use thread to add fine detail to your art quilts.
Leni is also featured in the following books (and DVDs). Click on each for a link to purchase.
